Sean Potter is a meteorologist, science writer, and weather historian whose career in weather and communications has included work for ABC News/Good Morning America, the National Weather Service, and NASA.

He is a graduate of St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology and German, as well as Indiana University, where he received a Master of Science degree in geography, as a member of the Atmospheric Science Program.

He holds certifications from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) in both consulting and broadcast meteorology (one of only about 15 people with active certifications in both areas) and serves as a member of the AMS History Committee. He previously served as a member of the AMS Committee on the Station Scientist and the AMS Commission on the Weather and Climate Enterprise Steering Committee. He is also a past president of the Association of Consulting Meteorologists and is a member of the National Association of Science Writers.

Sean is a contributing editor of Weatherwise magazine, where, for the past 20 years, his column, Retrospect, has explored the intersection of weather and history. He also has served as a contributor to USA TODAY and has been interviewed by the BBC, The Weather Channel, The New York Times, and The Atlantic, among other media outlets.

In addition to his writing, consulting, and communications work, Sean has taught courses in weather and climate for Indiana University and Graduate School USA.

His debut book, Too Near for Dreams, has been named an Academic Best Seller by Library Journal.
